On Attempts to Transform the Communist Past into Democracy: Testimonies and Documents of Civil Society Institutions and Political Opposition in Russia until 2022
Project period: 2024
In the decade from the early 1990ies hundreds of civil society institutions and political parties were established in Russia and the political landscape was marked by a variety of political actors in the capital and the regions. The project’s goal is to make visibile and accessible for researchers the legacy of this important period of transition of the communist past into democracy in Russia before again turning into an authoritarian state. Within the framework of the project the following unique sources and documents in FSO's archive will be made accessible for researchers and the public:
- Papers of the former Institute for Humanities and Political Studies (IPGI), Moscow
- Collection of self-published materials issued by russian political and civil society organizations
- Digital Archive of Memorial Perm and Center for the Support of Democratic Youth Initiatives, Perm
