Everyday Life and Networks of Czechoslovak Exiles in Vienna after 1968
Rsearch Project of Klaas AndersSupervisor: Prof. Dr. Susanne Schattenberg
This dissertation project investigate the networks and structures of Czechoslovak exiles after 1968 in Vienna. The project focuses on the period after 1968 and thus examines the arrival of the exiles who left Czechoslovakia after the suppression of the Prague Spring. The project focuses on networks that were used to cope with everyday life in Vienna. Contacts between the exiles and with the surrounding society will be investigated, as well as the spatial localization of the networks within Vienna. In doing so, the project looks at the role of urban space for the exile networks. The project thus adapts aspects of recent exile research, everyday and social history, as well as concepts of spatial and network research. The project primarily uses oral history approaches, which are supplemented by selected archival sources.
